Starting a winter arc late

Updated

You can start a winter arc on any day before December 31. Keep the same end date, scale your big goals to the days left, and don't try to make up for missed weeks by doubling up. A 60-day arc you finish beats a 92-day one you abandon in week two.

Keep December 31

Don't push the end into January to get a full 92 days. The point of a winter arc is arriving at the new year already moving. Everyone finishes on the same day, so you can still compare with friends who started on time.

Keep the daily habits, scale the big goals

A daily habit doesn't change: 20 pages a day is 20 pages a day. Totals do. If you'd have aimed for 12 books over the full season, starting October 15 makes it about 10. Multiply your full-season target by the days left and divide by 92.

Log only what you really did

If you've already been training since October 1, count it. If you haven't, don't pretend. On Winter Arc you can log the days you missed for 3 days after signing; days you leave empty never count against you.

Start today

  1. 01Choose 3 to 5 habits. Fewer if you're starting in December.

  3. 03Scale any big goal to the days left.
  4. 04Do the first check-in today, not tomorrow.
  5. 05Find one person to do it with, even if they're starting late too.

Questions

Is it too late to start a winter arc in November?
No. Starting November 1 still gives you 61 days, about two months, which is plenty of time to build a habit.
Can I start a winter arc in December?
Yes. December 1 to 31 is a 31-day arc. Keep it to two or three habits and treat it as a running start into January.
